Binge Drinking Drops Among Teenagers, but not with females, lower socioeconomic groups and African-Americans

Teens are binge drinking less, according to a new report. “It’s good news,” said the study from University of Michigan. The bad news is that frequent binge drinking is not decreasing as rapidly among members of lower socioeconomic groups, African-Americans and girls. Plus, the exception is marijuana; daily use and near-daily use of that drug have increased, while perceptions of harm have decreased. Continue reading

Former Missouri University student sues Kappa Alpha for alcohol hazing following .41 BAC

The Missouri University fraternity are being sued by a former MU student who was injured in a 2016 hazing event involving binge-drinking. Brandon Zingale nearly died in an alcohol-related hazing event in 2016. During the night became so intoxicated he could not take care of himself, so fraternity members put him to bed wearing a backpack to keep him from rolling onto his back and dying of asphyxiation, according to the suit. When he arrived at the hospital the next day, his blood alcohol content was .41. Continue reading
