Fatality Crash #89 — Car vs Tree

The preliminary investigation shows that a gray 2010 Chrysler 300 was traveling eastbound on Thannas Way and failed to make a left turn to continue on Thannas Way, left the roadway and crashed into trees south of 7019 Thannas Way.  The sole occupant of the vehicle, Steven Dominic Guajardo, was pronounced deceased at the scene. It was only recently determined by the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office that Guajardo died as a result of an unseen injury caused by the crash.

The preliminary investigation shows that a bicyclist was traveling southbound in the northbound lane of Brodie Lane when he was struck by a Ford F-350 truck. The driver of the Ford remained on scene.  The bicyclist was pronounced deceased at the scene. The identity of the deceased is not being released pending notification of family members.

The preliminary investigation shows that an unknown vehicle was traveling westbound in the 3000 block of East SH 71 when it left the roadway and traveled into the center median. The vehicle struck the pedestrian and then fled the scene. The deceased pedestrian has been identified as 45-year-old Gary Crescini.

The preliminary investigation shows that a red 2002, Ford Focus was traveling westbound in the 12800 block of Pearce Lane. The Pedestrian was standing in the middle of the road and was struck by the Ford focus.  The pedestrian, identified as Ira Hodge Jr. (D.O.B. 7-1-70), was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Jessica Hartley was walking southbound in the outside lane of traffic and was struck by the Volkswagen Jetta.  Jessica Lynn Hartley was pronounced deceased at the scene

Preliminary investigation shows that a 2006 Mercedes Benz was west bound on Slaughter. A 2001 Chevrolet Prizm was turning from south bound Mopac to east bound Slaughter. A 2008 Chrysler was also south bound on Mopac when the Mercedes ran a red light and struck the Chevrolet forcing it to crash into the Chrysler.  The driver of the Chevrolet was transported to the University Medical Center at Brackenridge and was pronounced deceased shortly after arrival.

The driver of the Mercedes was identified as Anthony Anania. He exhibited signs of intoxication and was placed under arrest at the scene. Anania was charged with Intoxication Manslaughter with a bond set at $100,000.

The preliminary investigation shows that a black 2014, Ford Focus was traveling northbound in the southbound lane around the 9000 block of Research Boulevard.  At that time a 2005 gray Ford Explorer was travelling southbound when they crashed head on in the inside lane.  The driver in the Ford Focus was pronounced deceased at the scene while the driver in the Ford Explorer was transported to University Medical Center Brackenridge with non-life threatening injuries.

The preliminary investigation shows that a black 2014 Kia sedan was westbound in the 9700 block of E. Hwy 290 westbound service road and for an unknown reason drifted onto the north curb line and struck a grass embankment which caused it to overturn.

The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. The remaining passengers were transported to University Medical Center at Brackenridge Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The preliminary investigation shows that a 2004 silver Chevrolet Venture was eastbound on the south frontage of Hwy 290 approaching Cameron Rd. A 1998 black Honda Prelude was northbound on Cameron Rd. in the 6300 block. The Chevrolet swerved to keep from rear-ending another vehicle and crashed into the driver’s side of the Prelude.  The driver of the Honda was transported to University Medical Center Brackenridge Hosptial and was pronounced deceased at 7:59 p.m.  The driver of the Chevrolet, Cesar Perez-Estevane, 35-year-old Hispanic male, was arrested for Intoxication Manslaughter.

The preliminary investigation shows that a silver 2008 Yamaha Motorcycle was westbound in the 100 block of West Oltorf St. when it struck a pedestrian who was in the roadway. A red 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer, also traveling westbound on Oltorf St.,  ran over the pedestrian and fled the scene.  The pedestrian was transported to University Medical Center Brackenridge Hospital with life-threatening injuries. At 10:30 a.m. on October 30, 2015 the pedestrian died as a result of his injuries.  Adrian John Gonzalez, 26-year-old Hispanic male, the driver of the Mitsubishi, was located near the scene and arrested for Failure to Stop and Render Aid and DWI.

The preliminary investigation shows that a silver 2014 Icebear Cosmo (scooter) was involved in a single vehicle crash in the 2200 block of S. IH-35 northbound and ended up on the Woodland Avenue exit ramp. A blue 2007 Toyota Highlander was on the Woodland Avenue exit ramp and moved to the right to avoid hitting the scooter but struck the scooter operator.  The operator of the scooter was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The preliminary investigation shows that a white 2007 Chevrolet Van and a red 2006 Kia sedan were traveling Eastbound on State Highway 71. The Chevrolet van rear-ended the Kia sedan causing both vehicles to spin. The van hit a signal pole and the driver of the was transported to University Medical Center at Brackenridge Hospital, dying a short time later.

The preliminary investigation shows that a blue Kenworth Tractor Trailer (18-wheeler) was traveling southbound on South IH-35. The pedestrian was crossing the freeway south of the William Cannon exit from east to west. The pedestrian was struck by the cab of the 18-wheeler and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The preliminary investigation shows that a blue 2009 New Flier (Capital Metro bus) was traveling northbound on Metric Blvd. and turning eastbound onto W. Howard Ln. A pedestrian was walking northbound across W. Howard Ln. along the east cross walk. The bus failed to yield right of way to the pedestrian in the crosswalk. The pedestrian was struck by the bus on its right side.  The pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene.  The driver of the bus, Ronnie Calvert, D.O.B. 7-18-59, was cited for Failure to Yield Right of Way, a Class C Misdemeanor.

The Freightliner was traveling at a low rate of speed in the inside lane. A maroon 2002 Dodge Ram pickup struck the rear of the trailer with its front end.  The driver of the Dodge was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Lexus struck the pedestrian with the front right portion of the vehicle.  The pedestrian was transported to University Medical Center Brackenridge Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at 11:50 p.m.

All occupants in the vehicles were pronounced deceased on scene.

The preliminary investigation shows that a white 2003 Toyota Tacoma was traveling westbound on Burleson Road. A 2013 Kenworth Truck was traveling northbound on Hwy 183. A grey 2003 Ford F-150 was stopped at a red light, southbound on 183, in the left turn lane, waiting to turn eastbound on to Burleson Road.  The Tacoma ran the red light at Burleson Road and Hwy 183. The front of the Kenworth truck struck the Tacoma on the driver’s side door.  All three occupants of the Tacoma were transported to University Medical Center at Brackenridge Hospital. The passenger, Vanessa Maldonado, was pronounced deceased at 1:14 p.m. and the driver, Johan Maldonado, was pronounced deceased at 1:51 p.m. The third occupant of the Tacoma sustained serious injuries.

A black and orange 2015 Toyota Scion was traveling southbound on the lower deck of IH 35. The Camry crashed head on into the Scion.  The driver of the Scion was pronounced deceased on scene at 3:10 a.m. Both occupants of the Camry were transported to University Medical Center at Brackenridge Hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries.

Man Killed In Deadly Wreck On Hwy 290 Updated: Mon, Aug 17 2015, 02:40 AM One man is dead following a rollover wreck along Highway 290 just west of Elgin. The first call to Travis County Sheriff’s Office was at 11:25 Sunday night. As of 1:42 Monday morning they still had officers on scene along with Department of Public Safety officers. According to Austin-Travis County EMS the man, who is in his 20s, was declared dead when they arrived at the crash site. They said there were no other patients. Eastbound lanes of Highway 290 were closed as crews wrapped up their investigation. As of Monday morning it was unclear as to what caused this rollover wreck.

The preliminary investigation shows that a white 2005 Buick LaCrosse was heading westbound on 15th Street and was going to make a left turn onto Red River. A black 2013 Harley Davidson was eastbound on 15th Street in the outside lane. The driver of the LaCrosse failed to yield right of way during the left turn and crashed into the motorcycle, ejecting both the driver and passenger. Both occupants of the motorcycle were transported to University Medical Center at Brackenridge Hospital. The driver was transported with non-life threatening injuries and the passenger was pronounced deceased shortly after arrival.

Caldwall County Crashy – Car (rollover) Five Dead

Mustang Ridge police report four people died and five people were transported to hospitals on Thursday morning in a crash in Caldwell County. Nine people were ejected from a vehicle in a rollover at the intersection of Highway 183 and SH 21. Caldwell County reports that northbound 183 is closed before SH 21. Please avoid the area. Austin-Travis County EMS STAR Flight is assisting with the injuries. Two patients taken by helicopter to Dell Children’s Medical Center. Another injured person taken by ambulance. The ages and injuries have not been specified.

A 2006 Mack garbage truck was traveling westbound on Slaughter Ln. in the left lane. The Jeep pulled in front of the garbage truck and was hit by the garbage truck on the driver’s side. The passenger of the garbage truck was ejected from the cab of the truck and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The preliminary investigation shows that a white 2005 Kia Optima was northbound on Congress Avenue, turning westbound onto 4th Street. A 2008 Honda CBR 1000 motorcycle was traveling southbound on Congress Avenue. The Kia turned left in front of the Honda, causing the motorcycle to collide into the car. The motorcycle rider was wearing a helmet and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Kia was arrested and charged with Intoxication Manslaughter.

The preliminary investigation shows that a pedestrian, Luis Arriaza, Hispanic male, D. O. B. 11-13-66, crossed mid-block in the 6600 block S. Congress Avenue and was struck by a 2006 white Dodge Durango. Arriaza was transported to the University Medical Center at Brackenridge and died on August 2, 2015 as a result of the injuries sustained in the crash.

The preliminary investigation shows that a 2015 Chevrolet Malibu was southbound in the 9700 block of Manchaca Rd. For unknown reasons, the driver of the Malibu lost control, reaching high speeds as he struck a gray Mitsubishi Outlander. The Malibu continued to the 9800 block of Manchaca, striking a red Nissan Versa and a black Mazda CX-5, causing them to crash into five other vehicles that were stopped in the southbound lanes of Manchaca Rd. at the Slaughter Ln. intersection. Those vehicles were: silver Toyota Camry, blue Nissan Altima, white Buick Lacross, black Kia Forte and maroon Honda Element. The driver of the Nissan Versa was pronounced deceased at the scene. Several other drivers and passengers were transported to local hospitals.

The Mazda crossed over the center lane and crashed head on into a 2005 silver Buick Rainier that was traveling southbound in the left lane.  The driver of the Buick was transported to the University Medical Center at Brackenridge. The driver of the Mazda was pronounced deceased at the scene.

TRAVIS COUNTY, Texas – The death toll rose to two in a head-on crash along U.S. 183 near State Highway 45 and State Highway 130 Toll interchange, sources confirmed Sunday.  Domingo Barrientos-Diaz, 22, and Seth Sanchez-Torres, 39, died in the crash, according to Texas Department of Public Safety. DPS reports that Barrientos-Diaz, a Lockhart resident, was driving north in a 2001 Ford Mustang when he passed a car in a no-passing lane. He then struck Dale, Texas resident Sanchez-Torres, who was traveling south in a 2003 Nissan Frontier.   Austin-Travis County EMS said Barrientos-Diaz died from his injuries before they arrived on the scene. DPS confirmed that Sanchez-Torres died shortly after he was taken to University Medical Center-Brackenridge.

The preliminary investigation shows that a red 2008 Chevrolet Silverado was stopped in the center lane, in the 8000 block of N IH-35 northbound. A 2015 Werner 18-wheeler was also traveling northbound in the 8000 block of N IH-35. The 18-wheeler came over a slight hill and saw a vehicle stopped in the center lane. The driver of the 18-wheeler applied the brakes, but could not stop and impacted the rear end of the Silverado.  Two passengers in the Silverado were pronounced deceased on the scene.  A third passenger identified as Camila Resendiz, Hispanic female, D.O.B. 07-29-2014 died at Dell Children’s Medical Center from injuries sustained in the crash.

The preliminary investigation shows that the driver of a white 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe was traveling northbound in the 9100 block of RM 2222, in the outside lane. A blue 2014 Toyota Prius was traveling northbound on RM 2222, in the inside lane. The driver of the white Tahoe changed into the inside lane and rear-ended the Prius. The white Tahoe then struck a black 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe, who was northbound in the outside lane. The driver of the Prius was transported to St. David’s Round Rock Hospital and was pronounced deceased on July 22, 2015 at 6.26 p.m. due to injuries sustained during the crash.

Fatality Crash #55  –  Truck vs. Pedestrian

The preliminary investigation shows that a silver 2015 Freightliner tractor was traveling eastbound on U.S. Highway 290 and exited at Tuscany Way. The driver hit the brakes and swerved to avoid striking a pedestrian he observed running across the road from north to south. Despite the driver’s efforts, the pedestrian struck the truck. The 18 wheeler then hit a concrete pillar. The driver suffered serious injuries. The pedestrian, Veronica A. Cantu, Hispanic female, D. O. B. 4-30-1981, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Fatality Crash #54 – 2 Car Crash (ran stop sign)

The preliminary investigation shows that a 2005 Black Dodge Caravan was traveling eastbound in the 3100 block of Govalle Avenue. A 2014 Maroon Honda Accord was travelling northbound on Tillery St. The Dodge failed to Yield Right of Way – Stop Sign and struck the Honda.  Neither of the drivers were transported from the scene and the driver of the Honda refused medical treatment at the scene.  Later that evening, the driver of the Honda went to the hospital with significant abdominal pain. He died as a result of his injuries on Sunday, July 12, 2015 at 9:10 p.m.

The preliminary investigation shows that a black 2008 Kia was traveling northbound on IH 35 at a high rate of speed. The driver lost control and the vehicle began to slide. The Kia left the main lanes of the highway and slid across the grassy median, across the frontage road and struck a wooden utility pole with the passenger side of the vehicle.  The female passenger was transported to University Medical Center at Brackenridge Hospital where she was pronounced deceased shortly after arrival.  The driver was also transported to University Medical Center at Brackenridge Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The driver was arrested for Intoxication Manslaughter.

The preliminary investigation shows that a 2014 Texas Disposal Systems Mack Truck struck a pedestrian in the 1200 block of E. 11th St.  The pedestrian was pronounced deceased on scene. She has been identified as Brewster Luster, Black female, D. O. B. 05-23-76.

The preliminary investigation shows that a  pedestrian was in the roadway and was likely trying to cross the eastbound service road. It appears the pedestrian was hit by multiple vehicles, only one of which remained on scene.  The pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Fatality Crash – Manor (County) – Car (left roadway) vs. Ditch

A man in his 90s was killed when his car went off the road and crashed into a ditch in Manor, paramedics said.  The crash happened at about 10:15 a.m. in the 13600 block of Suncrest Road near FM 973, Austin-Travis County EMS said. The incident is under investigation, EMS said.

The preliminary investigation shows that a Blue 2006 Ford F-150 was traveling northbound on South Congress Avenue approaching Cumberland Road. The vehicle had a green light. A pedestrian was crossing the street against the pedestrian control device and not in the crosswalk. The pedestrian was struck by the F-150 and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the F-150 stayed on the scene.

The preliminary investigation shows that a Black 2002 Ford Escape was traveling wrong way, eastbound in the westbound lane in the 900 block of East Koenig Lane. The Ford Escape collided head on with a Red 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier while it was legally traveling westbound.  The driver of the Cavalier was pronounced deceased on scene. The driver of the Escape was transported to University Medical Center at Brackenridge Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Charges are still pending, as the case is still under investigation.

The preliminary investigation shows that a black 2008 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling wrong way, northbound in the southbound lanes of the 5100 block of Ed Bluestein Blvd. The Chevrolet crashed head-on into a red 2002 Ford Focus that was legally traveling southbound. The driver of the Ford Focus, Kimberly Faye Green was pronounced deceased at the scene.  The driver of the Chevrolet, Victor Manuel Ontiveros-Flores has been arrested and charged with Intoxication Manslaughter, a Second Degree Felony.

The preliminary investigation shows that a Grey 2010 Nissan Altima was traveling the wrong way in the westbound lanes of the 1900 block of West Ben White Blvd. The Altima crashed head-on into a Green 2004 Toyota Avalon, which was traveling westbound legally. The driver of the Altima was pronounced deceased on scene. The driver of the Toyota Avalon had life threatening injuries and the passenger had non-life threatening injuries; both were transported to the University Medical Center at Brackenridge.

BUDA, Texas (KXAN) — A woman was killed and a man was taken to the hospital following a multi-crash Friday night in Southeast Travis County, according to Austin-Travis County EMS. The crash happened about 10:30 p.m. near Turnersville Road and FM 1327.  EMS said a man, who is in his 30s, was taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life threatening.

The preliminary investigation shows that a 2011 black Dodge Avenger was travelling northbound in the 5900 block of S. IH 35. A pedestrian attempted to cross the freeway from east to west and was struck by the Dodge. The driver of the Dodge was unable to avoid hitting the pedestrian. The pedestrian was transported to the University Medical Center and Brackenridge where he was later pronounced deceased. The driver of the Dodge stayed at the scene.

The preliminary investigation shows that a that 1998 Honda Shadow motorcycle was southbound in the 5200 block of West Gate Blvd. when it collided with the rear of a 1995 Ford Ranger, which was stopped and waiting to turn left. The deceased, David Earl Surgers was ejected off the motorcycle and landed on the ground.

The preliminary investigation shows that a pedestrian was crossing mid-block at 900 E. Koenig Ln. service road westbound when he was struck by a 2009 Chrysler PT Cruiser. The PT Cruiser was traveling westbound on the E. Koenig Ln. service road and did not see the pedestrian until the crash occurred.  The pedestrian was transported to University Medical Center Brackenridge hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased on June 7, 2015.

The bicyclist was transported to University Medical Center Brackenridge hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

The preliminary investigation shows that a silver 2002 Mercedes Benz SLK320 was driving westbound in the 1900 block of Manana Street. The Mercedes left the roadway, struck a tree, and rolled over. The passenger was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver was arrested for Manslaughter and Intoxication Manslaughter.

The preliminary investigation shows that a 2012 Silver VW Jetta was exiting a private driveway south of Barton Springs Rd. when the driver experienced a medical episode and accelerated in a northwestern direction across Barton Springs Rd. The Jetta continued across the 300 block of S. 1St St., where the vehicle struck a pedestrian who was crossing S. 1St St. eastbound. The Jetta came to rest in front of the Long Center after striking a concrete pillar.  The pedestrian, Janice Collins, was transported to University Medical Center at Brackenridge Hospital, where was pronounced deceased on June 2, 2015.  The driver of the Jetta was also transported and pronounced deceased at University Medical Center at Brackenridge Hospital. The Travis County Medical Examiner ruled his death was a result of natural causes.

The preliminary investigation shows that a 2008 black Acura RDX was travelling westbound on 3rd street approaching Congress Avenue when a pedestrian stepped into car’s path from the north curb line of 3rd St. The driver of the Acura was unable to avoid hitting the pedestrian. The pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene. Speed and alcohol are not suspected to be factors in this crash.  APD later reported the crash as a suicide.

The preliminary investigation shows that a 1996 Nissan Pathfinder was northbound on Cooper Lane, waiting to turn left onto westbound West William Cannon Drive with a green light. A 1989 Honda Civic was southbound on Cooper Lane approaching the intersection with West William Cannon Drive with a green light. When both vehicles received a yellow light, the Nissan turned left in front of the Honda, causing the crash in the middle of the intersection. The driver of the Honda was transported to University Medical Center at Brackenridge, where he was pronounced deceased at 5:27 a.m. on May 28, 2015. The driver of the Nissan was transported to St. David’s South Austin Medical Center with minor injuries.

The preliminary investigation shows that a 2007 Hyundai Sonata was westbound in the center lane on Parmer Lane.  A 1998 Volvo S70 was stationary at the red light, in the center lane, southbound on Lamar Blvd. The light turned green and the Volvo proceeded southbound on Lamar.  The Hyundai ran the red light, striking the Volvo on the driver’s side. The driver of the Volvo was pronounced deceased at the scene.  A 4 year old, backseat passenger, was transported to Dell Children’s Hospital.

The preliminary investigation shows that a 2002 Subaru Outback was stopped in the roadway in the 300 block of Airport Blvd. due to a road hazard in the northbound, inside lane. A 2004 Ford Mustang was traveling northbound on Airport Blvd. and swerved, striking the side of the Subaru. The Mustang then struck a 2013 Hyundai Elantra. Once the Elantra came to a stop, it was struck from behind by a 1999 Ford F-150.  Mary Arevalo, the driver of the Mustang, was transported to the University Medical Center at Brackenridge, where she was later pronounced deceased. The driver of the Subaru was issued a citation for Impeding Traffic.

The preliminary investigation shows that a pedestrian, Vanessa Ashley Whitford, was walking eastbound in the roadway of the 500 block of E. Riverside Dr., when she was struck by a vehicle. The vehicle was traveling eastbound and struck the pedestrian from behind. The pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene.  The driver, Trevor Taylor, was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated.

Lamar Blvd. A 2000 Triumph motorcycle was traveling northbound on S. Lamar in the inside lane. The Santa Fe failed to yield to the motorcycle and they collided head-on. The driver of the Santa Fe was arrested and charged with Intoxication Manslaughter.

A 2009 red Ford Focus then struck the pedestrian who had fallen into the left northbound lane. Both drivers remained on scene. The pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The preliminary investigation shows that a 1992 Oldsmobile Bravado was traveling wrong way, westbound in the eastbound lanes of Parmer Lane when it struck a 2005 Toyota Prius, head on. The passenger in the Prius, Eleanor Bailey Lane-Brown was pronounced deceased at the scene.  The driver of the Bravado, Herman Choc was arrested and charged with one count of Intoxication Manslaughter, two counts of Intoxication Assault, two counts of Aggravated Assault, and one count of Manslaughter.

The preliminary investigation shows that a male was walking in the westbound lanes of West Ben White service road at South Congress Ave. A 2000 maroon Chevrolet Lumina was traveling westbound on the service road in the outside lane of West Ben White Blvd. and struck the male. The pedestrian was pronounced at 12:17 a.m. on the scene.

Fatality Crash #31 – Motorcycle vs guardrail (left roadway)

The preliminary investigation shows that a 2002 Red/White Honda Motorcycle was travelling northbound in the 400 block of N Mopac, and passing other traffic illegally on the inside shoulder.  The driver of the motorcycle lost control and hit the guard rail.  The motorcycle stayed on the roadway, but the driver was ejected over the rail, where he landed on Lake Austin Blvd.

Fatality Crash —  Northeast Travis County – Two Car

One man is dead after a two car accident in Northeast Travis County. It happened just after 7 a.m. this morning.   The Travis County Sheriff’s Office says a Toyota was driving south on Yeager Lane and did not see a truck on East Palmer while crossing the intersection. The truck t-boned the car. One man in his 40s in that car died at the scene. The other person in the car was pinned in and had to be rescued. They are expected to be okay. It is unclear if the weather played a factor in the crash.

The preliminary investigation shows that the pedestrian was in the roadway in the 2100 block of South US Highway 183 Southbound. An unknown vehicle traveling southbound struck the pedestrian who was pronounced deceased at the scene.  The vehicle did not stop at the scene of the crash.

A 2011 Chevrolet Camaro was traveling Northbound on Burnet Road and Camaro ran the red light striking the Nissan. The driver of the Nissan was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Chevrolet was arrested for Intoxication Manslaughter.

The preliminary investigation shows that a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee was westbound in the 800 block of W. Slaughter Lane when it suddenly drove off the roadway. The Jeep traveled down a concrete embankment where it bottomed out against the ground before coming to rest in an empty field. The driver, Stephen Edward Horn,  was transported to South Austin Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased later that day.

The preliminary investigation shows that a that 2006 Subaru Impreza was westbound in the 7700 block of FM 2222 when it made a left turn onto Vaught Ranch Rd. A 2008 Harley Davidson motorcycle was eastbound on FM 2222 when it collided with the Subaru. The driver of the motorcycle was transported to University Medical Center at Brackenridge Hospital, where she was pronounced deceased.

The preliminary investigation shows that a black Suzuki motorcycle was southbound in the 14000 block of the North IH-35 service road at a high rate of speed when it collided with the rear of a black Chevrolet Silverado pickup, which was also southbound. The driver of the Suzuki fell off the motorcycle and slid on the roadway where he hit a parked car, a white Chrysler Seabring, which was parked and unoccupied on the grassy shoulder. The motorcyclist was pronounced deceased on scene.

The preliminary investigation shows that a black 2005 Suzuki Hayabusa was traveling northbound in the 5300 block of Ed Bluestein Blvd. when the driver lost control of the motorcycle and laid it down on its side. The black Hayabusa then slid into a black 2007 Suzuki M109 and a blue 2005 Yamaha R1, which were stopped behind a black 2010 Nissan Pathfinder. The driver of the Hayabusa then slid under the Pathfinder becoming lodged under the vehicle. The Hayabusa came to rest in the grassy median.  The driver of the Hayabusa motorcycle was transported to University Medical Center at Brackenridge where he was pronounced deceased.

The preliminary investigation shows that a 1994 Jeep was traveling northbound in the 3700 block of N. Mopac Expressway when it left the roadway and collided with the guardrail. The vehicle rolled several times ejecting the driver onto the roadway.  The driver was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Fatality Crash #21 – 3 Car — Wrong Way

The preliminary investigation shows that a gray Acura TSX was westbound in the 9300 block of Ranch Road 2222. A blue Chevy Tahoe was eastbound in the 9300 block of Ranch Road 2222. The Acura crossed over the double, solid, yellow line into oncoming traffic. The Tahoe crossed over into the westbound lane, in an attempt to avoid a crash. At that point, the Acura crossed back over into the westbound lane and the vehicles struck head on. A white Toyota Prius was also westbound on Ranch Road 2222 and made impact with the Acura during the crash, coming to a rest in the wooded area on the north curb line. The driver of the Acura was pronounced dead at the scene.

The preliminary investigation shows that a Gold Toyota Camry was traveling westbound in the 800 block of West Slaughter Lane, making a left turn into an apartment complex. A Black Honda motorcycle was traveling eastbound in the outside lane on Slaughter Lane. When the Toyota Camry turned into the complex, the motorcycle crashed into the Camry on its back passenger side. The driver of the motorcycle was transported to University Medical Center at Brackenridge Hospital with life threatening injuries. He was pronounced deceased at 1:23 a.m. on Tuesday, March 24, 2015

The preliminary investigation shows that a white 2003 Honda S2000 convertible was traveling northbound in the 4500 block of North Lamar Boulevard. It passed a black Ford Mustang that was also travelling northbound on Lamar and lost control, striking a pole on the East curb line. The driver of the Honda was pronounced deceased at the scene by Austin/Travis County EMS. The occupants of the Mustang and other witnesses waited on scene for officers to arrive.

The preliminary investigation shows that a Gray Chevrolet Impala was traveling westbound on the frontage road of the 2200 block of East Anderson lane when it struck a pedestrian that was attempting to cross the roadway from north to south. The driver of the vehicle stayed on scene and called 911. The pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene by Austin/Travis County EMS.

The preliminary investigation shows that both a 2004 Acura MDX and a 2011 Audi Q5 were traveling eastbound on Parmer Lane. The Acura struck the rear of the Audi causing the Audi to strike a light pole on the south east corner of the intersection of W. Parmer Lane and Lamplight Village Drive. The driver and passenger of the Acura fled on foot, but were later apprehended by patrol officers.   Billy Morris, 27, was charged with fleeing the scene and failing to stop and render aid.

A passenger was ejected and transported to University Medical Center at Brackenridge. The driver was pronounced deceased at the scene.

A 2012 Chevrolet Equinox was traveling eastbound on Parkstone Heights Drive and ran the stop sign at Capital of Texas Highway (Loop 360). The truck hit the Equinox as it crossed the left lane. The driver of the Equinox was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The preliminary investigation shows that a shows that a 2000 Saturn 4-door was southbound on the North IH-35 service road. At the 12600 block, the vehicle left the roadway to its left and struck a tree. The driver was transported to Saint David’s Round Rock Medical Center and was pronounced deceased on Feb. 1, 2015.

A 2009 Honda Civic was entering Burleson Rd. from a private drive when it was struck by the 2012 Chevrolet Silverado. The driver of the 2009 Honda Civic was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The preliminary investigation shows that a pedestrian, who was crossing south bound on Norwood Park Blvd, was struck by a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado, 1500 pickup truck traveling west bound. The pedestrian was struck by the Silverado which was turning from Clock Tower Dr. onto Norwood Park Blvd. The pedestrian was transported to University Medical Center at Brackenridge. The pedestrian succumbed to the injuries sustained as a result of the crash at U.M.C. Brackenridge on Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2015.

The driver of the 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe was pronounced deceased at the scene.

A pedestrian was walking the same lane and was struck by the Corolla. He was transported to the University Medical Center at Brackenridge where he was pronounced deceased at 8:11 p.m.

The preliminary investigation shows that a 2005 Chevrolet Avalanche was eastbound on Cloverleaf Dr. when it collided with a 1993 Pontiac Bonneville, which was traveling northbound on Berkman Dr. The driver of the Pontiac was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Chevrolet, Samuel Gee, Black male, D.O.B. 3-30-69, was arrested and charged with Intoxication Manslaughter, a 2nd degree felony.

The preliminary investigation shows that Blue Ford Focus was traveling eastbound on Riverside Drive and was turning left into an apartment complex.  A 2013 Honda Motorcycle was heading westbound on Riverside when the Ford Focus turned into the path of the motorcycle. The Driver of the motorcycle was ejected and was pronounced deceased after being transported to University Medical Center at Brackenridge Hospital. The motorcycle driver was wearing a helmet.

The suspect vehicle has been determined to be a 1997-1999 Nissan Altima. The Nissan should be missing its grill and should also have damage to one of the headlight lenses. APD is asking that body shops be on the lookout for this vehicle. On Saturday, January 10, 2015 at 3:10 a.m., patrol officers responded to the report of a male lying in the roadway in the 7400 block of E. US Hwy 290 eastbound. The male had traumatic injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Preliminary investigation shows that a pedestrian was most likely traveling northbound across the eastbound lanes US Hwy 290 and was struck by a vehicle that was traveling eastbound. The driver of the vehicle left the scene.

The preliminary investigation shows that the pedestrian was running eastbound across the southbound lanes at 12900 N. IH 35. A Dodge truck was traveling southbound in the inside lane of N. IH 35 and struck the pedestrian. The pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The preliminary investigation shows that a white Ford Expedition was traveling westbound on E. Koenig Ln. at Airport Blvd. The Expedition crossed into oncoming traffic in an attempt to pass vehicles. A silver Toyota Venza was traveling eastbound on E. Koenig Ln. and was hit head on after the Expedition crossed into oncoming traffic. The driver and the passenger of the Expedition were transported to the University Medical Center at Brackenridge by Austin-Travis County EMS. The passenger was transported with non-life threatening injuries, and the driver was pronounced deceased at the hospital. The driver of the Venza was flown to the University Medical Center at Brackenridge by Travis County Star Flight with life threatening injuries.

September 30, 2015 — AUSTIN (KXAN) — New numbers from the Austin Police Department help shed light on the contributing factors to a rise in deaths on Austin roads.

While investigators are still investigating some some of the deadly crashes or are waiting on toxicology results, the report highlights the majority of incidents happen after midnight. The study was on the 76 crashes that occurred starting from January this year to August; since then there have been five more crashes.

The report breaks down the deaths into four categories: pedestrian, motorcycle, motor vehicle and bicycle.

Pedestrian Deaths

APD found 95 percent of the 23 pedestrian fatalities to be involving a victim who crossed when or where crossing was prohibited. Eighty-two percent of the overall number of pedestrian fatalities were on a highway or high speed roadway. The APD report also illustrates that 68% of the deaths happened during nighttime hours.

The report also found:

  • 41% involved impairment
  • 43% of those killed were transient
  • 43% of those at fault were over the age of 45
  • 87% of those killed had prior involvement with APD

Motorcycle deaths

The APD report shows 55 percent of motorcycle deaths happened on high capacity city streets; only one occurred on Interstate 35. Of the 11 people killed, APD says 36 percent did not have a license (three of the victims did not have a motorcycle license and a fourth had no license at all.) More than a quarter of the victims had a previous license suspension while more than half of those killed had previous convictions (including traffic violations). In fact, the report outlines four of the five victims found to be speeding had previously been cited for speeding. One of the victims had seven previous speeding convictions.

The report also found:

  • 3 of 11 incidents happened in the 1:00 a.m. hour
  • 73% of those at fault were 45 or younger
  • 36% involved impairment

Motor vehicle deaths

Forty-one people were killed in motor vehicle collisions so far in 2015.  Of the 41 people killed, 85 percent happened on a highway or high-capacity roadway. Impairment was involved in 55 percent of

the crashes. Speeding was found to be a contributing factor to deaths in 39 percent of crashes. There were five head-on collisions and five collisions due to running a red light or stop sign.

Friday and Saturday were found to be the most common days for deadly vehicle collisions (21% each), and most (42%) incidents happened between midnight and 5 a.m.

The APD report also detailed:

  • 61% of those had prior involvement with APD and had previously been arrested
  • 2 drivers with more than 30 suspensions both had suspended licenses at the time of the deadly crash
  • 3 drivers who were impaired at the time of the deadly crash had previous DWIs; none had valid licenses
  • 31% of those involved had at least one previous license suspension
    APD notes: “One driver who was impaired, speeding and ran a red light killing the driver of another vehicle had 24 previous suspensions and 6 previous speeding convictions.”
  • 44% had at lease one previous DL conviction
    • 13 drivers were speeding
    • 6 of those 13 had three prior speeding convictions
  • 42% of those at fault were between the ages of 26 and 35
