With the rise of support started from the “Me too” Campaign, women are now becoming more vocal about their traumas and having their attackers arrested from their drunken assaults. Students lives are being ruined by the choices made will binge drinking, victim and attackers alike. About 696,000 students aged 18-24 are assaulted by another student who has been drinking. Worse over, about 97,000 students between 18-24 are experiencing alcohol-related sexual assaults or date rape. Continue reading

UT Austin Leads $29 Million Alcoholism Treatment Consortium

The National Institutes of Health has awarded an international consortium seeking better pharmaceutical treatments for alcoholism a five-year grant totaling $29 million. Adolescents whose parents neither kept an eye on them nor provided a supportive home environment were more likely to binge drink. December and Summer months are when teens are most likely to start substance abuse for first time, study says

Did you know that first-time use of most substances peaks during the summer months of June and July, then again in December. In other words, teens are probably at home with more free time and perhaps less supervision. But this should also be the perfect time to talk to you youth about substance abuse.

On an average day in June, July, or December, more than 11,000 youths used alcohol for the first time; in other months, the daily average ranged from about 5,000 to 8,000 new users per day.
